approx. 10:30 or longer.  An adaptation of a piece originally written for septet and recorded on the album Justin Morell Septet.  The piece is built around a six-beat ostinato, but is couched in a blues form with a bridge.  Several styles are incorporated, including rock and funk as well as samba and march.  The solo sections include open vamps and can be expanded to any length; however, a good starting point is to repeat the open vamps 6-12 times.  Tenor 1 plays the first, and longest solo.  At m. 170, solos can be divided up freely across the lead alto and second trumpet: both can play in conversation, or they can trade sections.  If the latter, it is suggested that the trumpet play against the saxophone backgrounds at mm. 173, 197, 224, and 248.  The final solo section at m. 341 is for any of the altos or tenors.  When soloing, the player can ignore or play the background notes.

Instrumentation: [5, 4, 4, 4] 2 alto, 2 tenor, baritone saxophones; trumpets 3 & 4 double flugelhorn.

The full score is available free of charge here.  Purchase will include the complete set of parts.
